The North Gyeongsang provincial government is inviting foreign teachers in Korea to Dokdo, to enhance their understanding of the history of the country’s easternmost islets.
Three groups of 180 foreigners teaching languages at primary or secondary schools across the country will be given an invitation.
Over the course of a three-day program, they will take part in lectures and debates on Dokdo and visit the islets and nearby Ulleung Ilsand. They will also be given honorary Dokdo citizenship.
A first batch of teachers attended the program through Wednesday, with a second and third group to make the trip later this month.
The province launched the program in 2009, extending the invitation to around 540 foreign teachers through last year.
